After their bitter public break-up, it was so positive to see how Essendon player Jake Stringer and his ex-partner, social media influencer, Abby Gilmore, have evolved into supportive and cohesive co-parents as the footballer marked a significant career milestone on Friday.
Gilmore took to social media that evening to congratulate Stringer on his 150th AFL game and shared footage of her son, Mason, excitedly pointing out his sisters, Milla and Arlo, as they joined the Bomber forward on the ground at Marvel Stadium before Essendon took on the Adelaide Crows.
Arlo and Milla are Stringer and Gilmore’s daughters. Gilmore is now in a relationship with builder, Leigh Wellington with whom she has a son, Mason.
Stringer and his partner Taylor McVeigh quietly welcomed their first child, a son named River, in April last year.
The one-year-old joined his dad and half-sisters to run through the Club’s banner. The kids were clearly delighted to be part of a special night for their dad.
Showing an entrepreneurial streak, Gilmore has turned her co-parenting experience into a business, recently launching her Shine by Abby Gilmore co-parenting and everyday affirmation cards for children.
Gilmore and Stringer spilt in 2016, while he was playing for the Western Bulldogs, and the following year the young mum laid bare the very personal issues that destroyed their relationship.
“I look back at that point in my life and I see a young girl that was very confused and very lost and angry. It’s hard to see the person you pictured your whole life with living their life without you in it,” she said on the Lemonade podcast in 2019 of the months after the split.
Happily though their children have bonded them.
Gilmore has also spoken with great warmth about Stringer’s partner McVeigh.
“I love Taylor, she works so well with us, I think she’s amazing,” Gilmore said on the same podcast.
