Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton’s Bright picnic has sent social media into a frenzy.
Sutton was snapped maskless, while picnicking in the regional town last weekend.
And Victorians couldn’t have been more divided in their opinions on it.
Some were angry and confused, sharing their frustrations online to complain Sutton appeared to be breaching health regulations he created.
“What were his health directives? You must wear a mask and you must social distance? Do as I say, not as I do,” one person wrote.
But others were quick to defend him, pointing out you don’t have to wear a mask while eating and drinking
The Department of Health and Human Services website advises that “you can take your face mask off when eating or drinking”.
“People always have to look for something to hate on. You can’t eat or drink with a mask on,” another user wrote.
Other Facebook users felt the image had been doctored.
“This is not real. Its just his head on someone else,” one wrote.
While another said: “this photo is clearly photoshopped! His legs (aren’t) in-line with his feet.”
But even more were just happy to see their favourite health officer in the wild.
“The rate Brett Succulent of the genus Swoonae”, one post read.
Whatever your view on the photo it’s not the first time Sutton’s rules came back to haunt him.
Sutton was happily knocked back from visiting Bright Brewery because the venue was at capacity.
The brewery cheekily posted the news late on Saturday night.
“Sorry you couldn’t get on the beers, Mr Sutton. Proving that literally all of Melbourne is in Bright this weekend, we had to turn away Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, twice today!
“Pictured here with our long-time bar staffer Wayne, Mr Sutton was a great sport when our staff explained that under his own COVID-restrictions, we unfortunately did not have the space to seat him.”
