Australians can now stay up to date with the latest coronavirus information through a feature on WhatsApp. Here’s how you can get official advice and alerts sent directly to your phone.

Australians can now access up to date coronavirus information via WhatsApp.

The government is using the messaging service app to inform the public about health advice and the measures that are being taken to tackle the pandemic.

The app can be downloaded through Google Play or the Apple App store for free.

Open an internet browser and go to ‘aus.gov.au/whatsapp’.

Australians can get information about the latest news and coronavirus cases by numbers.

The app features details about symptoms and how you can protect yourself and others.

The feature also provides support for families and businesses and advice from the states and territories.

All the information can be received by selecting appropriate numbers or emojis on your mobile.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the app would be a valuable service.

“You will get access to a new messaging service which enables us to talk to more Australians to provide direct information on a whole range of features in terms of basic health advice, updates on the measures that are being put in place by the state and federal governments,” Mr Morrison said.

“It will assist you to get the accurate and timely information about what is being done by governments around the country to support you, as you and your family and your household and your community work through the difficult months ahead because of the coronavirus”.
