‘Brighton Karen’ Jodi Grollo reveals she’s headed north
After finding statewide fame for walking every street of her ritzy bayside suburb, ‘Karen from Brighton’ is revealing what’s now made her leave Victoria in favour of a life in the lockdown-free sunshine state.

‘Karen from Brighton’ is quitting Victoria in the latest move in her ongoing protests against Premier Daniel Andrews’ COVID-19 lockdown laws.
Rather than ‘Karen from Brighton’ she will become ‘Karen from Queensland’ after a mandatory two week stay in a Northern Territory quarantine facility.
Well-heeled baysider Jodi Grollo was named ‘Karen from Brighton’ after a puffer-clad cameo on Channel 9 news in July where she declared she had “done all of Brighton” and complained about being confined to her suburb for exercise. The comments turned her into a social media sensation.
Far from shying away from her new-found fame, Grollo, who is the daughter of billionaire pokies baron Bruce Mathieson, quickly took to Instagram as ‘The Real Karen From Briiighton’ where she voiced her “Dan-demic” and “anti-Andrews” views.
But now, after being confined to her home in up-market Brighton for months, Grollo has had enough and is heading to Darwin to do a few laps around the Howard Springs quarantine centre before jetting off to Queensland.
“Anastasia isn’t that much better than Dan, but the weather is great & life is pretty much normal up there,’ she wrote on social media in reference to Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
“Such a shame because I really love Melbourne.”
She added: “Dan & his cronies have done my head in. I have to go for my mental health.”
Grollo broke the sad news that she is heading north to her social media fans in a sombre post on Wednesday night, set to the tune of the John Denver song ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane.’
“I am leaving on a jet plane, I don’t think that I’ll be back again,” she trilled.
“I really don’t want to go, but Dan is just so full of s —t.
“I mean, seriously, now he is just taking the piss.
“And why are we listening to all those flogs that ‘don’t know’ – seriously, ‘I don’t know’, ‘I can’t recall’, ‘it wasn’t me,’ ‘I don’t remember’.
“Bugger off. I am over. I am done. I am out.
“Cheers Victoria.”
Grollo posted that she would be out of quarantine on October 18.
Premier Andrews was unimpressed by Grollo’s frustration at not being able to walk at will around The Tan at the Royal Botanic Gardens in South Yarra when he spoke at a press conference in July.
“I’ve got a very clear message to every single Victorian, particularly some of those featured in social media: whether you’re in Broadmeadows or Brighton, stay at home means stay at home,” he said.
“And if walking your local streets is boring, well, being bored is much better than being in intensive care.”
“Karen” is the nickname given to middle-aged women, who are usually white, who like to complain.
