ASX 200 may rise; MinRes on watch; Fletcher CEO warns on outlook; GM soars

Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Wednesday, October 24. ASX 200 may rise. Insurance giant QBE allegedly 'misled' 500,000 customers on discounts. NIne-controlled Domain Holdings flags CEO change. ASIC on the trail of MinRes boss Chris Ellison. Fletcher CEO paints bleak outlook. 

ASX 200 futures are 0.3 per cent higher at 8266 points.

On Wall Street, major indexes pared earlier losses with the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones closing flat; the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.2 per cent.

US 10-year bond yields are near 4.21 per cent as Federal Reserve officials talked in favor of a moderate pace of interest-rate cuts.

Oil prices continued to climb with the global benchmark Brent crude near $US76 per barrel and the US WTI near $US72 per barrel.

Gold futures are hitting new highs, up 0.8 per cent to $US2761 per ounce.

Iron ore futures settled near $US100.70 per tonne.

The Aussie dollar is trading around US66.83c.
