Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Tuesday, July 1. The ASX 200 index is 0.1 per cent higher to 8548.50 points at 4.10pm AEST with the heavyweight miners down slightly and banks flat.

In US trading, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hit fresh all-time highs, closing 0.5 per cent higher. The Dow Jones index was 0.6 per cent stronger.

Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin was just under $US107,000 at 5pm AEST.

The Aussie dollar was trading around US65.74c.
