The world's most powerful woman is facing an almighty backlash to her controversial immigration policy. 

Angela Merkel's party is bracing itself for another humiliation at the ballot box amid a growing backlash against her open-door refugee policy.

Her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is expected to lose votes to the Alternative for Germany (AFD) in Berlin's state election on Sunday.

The far-right party capitalised on Mrs Merkel's controversial migrant policy to seal a remarkable result in the Chancellor's home state two weeks ago.

And a poor result in Berlin could spell the beginning of the end for under-fire Mrs Merkel, who has been Chancellor for 11 years.
