WHO ARE THE REAL 'DENIERS', FRAN?

The ABC denies the science in pushing its global warming faith. Host Fran Kelly today asked an ex-president of Kiribati how much his islands were drowning, and suggested they'd been hit by more storms. In fact, the science says 43 per cent of such islands are actually growing and just 16 per cent shrinking, and cyclones are fewer.

The ABC ignores the science in pushing its global warming faith.   The bias and the wilful ignorance are astonishing.

Host Fran Kelly, one of the ABC's most committed warmists, today asked an ex-president of Kiribati, Anote Tong, how much his islands were drowning, and criticised the current president for saying they weren't.

Kelly: The urgency of addressing climate change has intensified...

Tong: For those countries on the front line, their fate is virtually doomed... Global warming will continue, the sea level rise will continue...

Kelly: These are the predictions, what is the reality now... What is the situation now, how perilous is it?

Tong: ...I've always been very frank and honest to say I don't see the sea level rising, but what I see is impact in various communities and you get overtopping of the waves and over the land... It may not be the rise in sea level that would be the most immediate problem. I think the change in the weather pattern is more likely to be the more immediate and it has already happened.

Kelly: Storms and.

Tong: Storms. Because we on the equator don't get storms, we're on the doldrums. So we create the storms and they go south... But in 2014, cyclone Pam which devastated the island of Vanuatu swung around and came back north. It is not supposed to do that.

Kelly: And yet your successor seems to have a different view. He's been quoted saying cliamte change is indeed a serious problem,   but we don't believe that Kiribati will sink like the Titanic ship. Our beautiful lands are created by the hands of God.  Does it make it difficult for you to criticise governments abroad and campaign on this when you're own government appears to be questioning the impacts of climate change.

Tong: I don't think so. I've always been coming from the science. We're   talking in terms of what the science is saying.

Both Kelly and Tong claimed to be talking about the science.

But both were ignoring the science.

First, if Kelly is so interested in "the reality now" - whether sea level rises are indeed drowning low-lying atoll islands like those of Kiribati - why has she never bothered to check the most authoritative studies of such islands?

In fact, and contrary to what Tong often preaches about vanishing islands, the science shows that most islands like Kiribati's are not drowning at all.

The opposite, in fact, according to the most authoritative research..

Professor Paul Kench and Dr Arthur  Webb  studied 27 atoll islands in the central Pacific over  a  period of up to 60 years. They said:

Results show that 86% of islands remained stable (43%) or increased in area (43%) over the timeframe of analysis.

Second, Kelly jumped on the idea that global warming was bringing more storms. Tong blamed it for a cyclone.

Once again, the science says completely the opposite.

Even the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, which both Kelly and Tong airily cited, says this:

Numerous studies … have reported a decreasing trend in the global number of tropical cyclones and/or the globally accumulated cyclonic energy.

So most low-lying islands in the Pacific are actually growing or stable, contrary to what Kelly and Tong suggested, and even Tony admitted in self-contradiction that "I don't see the sea level rising". And cyclones are getting less common, not more, contrary to what Kelly and Tong suggested.

So who are the true "deniers" of climate science?

Isn't this proof that the ABC's refusal to debate the global warming scare leads to gross error?

And if global warming causes fewer cyclones, why stop it?
