HEAVY rain is about to hit the Gold Coast, with severe thunderstorms set to belt the city from about 4pm.
A severe weather warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology with a “very dangerous” thunderstorm travelling from the southwest.
Current weather models show intense rain is moving towards the Gold Coast. The rain is expected to hit all suburbs this afternoon.

BOM said widespread severe thunderstorms are “likely” across most of southeast Queensland, with the Coast expected to bear the brunt of damaging winds and large hail.
“(There is a) high risk of flash flooding with heavy/intense rainfall, damaging winds likely and large hail possible,” a spokesman said.
“Stay tuned to warnings and radar as storms develop this afternoon.”
