Two people taken to hospital in serious condition after horror crash at Bilinga

Two people were rushed to hospital and a busy suburb endured traffic chaos due to a series of traffic accidents across the Gold Coast today.

A SERIES of accidents caused traffic chaos and resulted in two people being taken to hospital in serious condition on the Gold Coast today.

In the first accident, paramedics were called to a two-vehicle crash on the Gold Coast Highway and Kirribin Street at 9.12am.

Southbound lanes on the Highway were blocked and traffic diverted onto Golden Four Drive as firefighters worked to extract the two patients from badly-damaged vehicles.

The pair were rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious condition.

One patient had pelvic injuries and was escorted by critical care paramedics and the second had chest and rib injuries and had a High Acuity Response Unit escort.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Southport was also thrown into traffic chaos for a short time with two crashes occurring.

Paramedics were called to a three vehicle crash at Parklands Drive and Smith Street in Southport at 12.23pm.

One patient opted to seek their own medical assistance.

The eastbound lane was blocked but was reopened shortly after.

A second crash happened only minutes later.

A three-car nose-to-tail occurred on the Gold Coast Highway northbound lanes close to Broadwater Parklands at 12.29pm.

Three patients were transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition while a fourth declined transport.

Traffic was backed up along the Gold Coast Highway while the crash was cleared but has since returned to normal.
