A high-risk domestic violence offender has been arrested after following a victim interstate and into Queensland.

A HIGH-risk domestic violence offender was arrested sleeping in a car in Tweed at the weekend after alleging following a victim from Victoria.

Police were called to Tweed City Shopping Centre about 9.15am on Friday.

It is alleged a 43-year-old man had followed a person from Victoria into NSW.

The man was found sleeping in a Victorian registered black Toyota Yaris at the shopping centre.

He was arrested by plain clothes police and taken to the Tweed Heads Police Station.

Two mobile phones were seized.

The man was charged with two outstanding warrants relating to domestic violence offences. He was refused bail at Tweed Heads Court on Saturday.

The accused claimed to have COVID-19. However, tests and health records proved this was not the case. He remains in custody.
