Hannah Christie Lovejoy faces charges in relation to GBL find

A Robina woman is facing charges related to the seizure of a drug known as ‘coma in a bottle’ after police allegedly found cash in her washing machine.

A GOLD Coast woman allegedly linked to about $125,000 worth of a drug known as “coma in a bottle” which arrived on a flight from China has been released on bail.

Hannah Christie Lovejoy did not appear in Southport Magistrates Court this afternoon where she faces charges of possessing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and receiving money reasonably expected to be proceeds of crime.

The Australian Border Force allegedly interrupted 25L of the drug gamma-butyrolactone, or GBL, which was found on a flight from China on May 4.

GBL is closely related GHB, which is also known as fantasy.

On Thursday police, including AFP and QPS, raided Lovejoy’s Robina home and allegedly found about $40,000 in cash.

It is alleged some of the cash was found in her washing machine.

The court was told this morning that commonwealth prosecutors had agreed to conditions to release the woman on bail.

Magistrate Pam Dowse granted bail on the condition Lovejoy continues to live in her Stadium Dr, Robina home, reports to police three times a week and does not leave Queensland or the country.

AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Stephen Jay said intercepting drugs like GBL is vital.

“GBL – also known as liquid ecstasy, fantasy or ‘coma in a bottle’ – is a potent chemical which can have severe side-effects once used, leading to drug dependency and death,” he said.

“The use of any illicit substance can have dire outcomes and we want to remind the community of the dangers of this particular drug.”

Lovejoy’s matter will return to court on July 20.
