A TEENAGER was in the “brightest yellow jumper that anyone can find on the Gold Coast” when he tried to rob a Surfers Paradise food shop.
Taine Mitchell Vanagas pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to attempted robbery.
Judge Bernard Porter sentenced him to three years probation. No conviction was recorded.
Prosecutor Rana Aldas said the 18-year-old went into a Surfers Paradise shop with his arm hidden in his jumper on September 13 last year.
She said he demanded money and the 44-year-old shop attendant “feared he was holding something and was going to harm her”.
Vanagas fled when the woman saw two people walking past and yelled for help.
Defence barrister Nick McGhee, instructed by Howden Saggers Lawyers, said there was no prior planning of the crime.
