Extraordinary video has been released to the Bulletin showing thieves smashing their way into a Gold Coast cafe that has been broken into five times in just two months.

Break-in at Upper Coomera cafe

EXTRAORDINARY footage shows thieves smashing their way into an Upper Coomera cafe under siege from repeated break-ins.

The video was taken at Cafe Two Coomera, which installed the CCTV system only weeks ago after being targeted three times.

The cafe has since been broken into on another two occasions – including the incident captured in the footage.

The cafe’s owner, who did not want to be named, said the break-ins had coast the business an estimated $5,000 in just two months.

“The first three break-ins they smashed the door open, so I had to fix that,” he said.

“Then they started smashing the back window, which has meant we’ve had to replace that twice now.

“We have been here for four years and it’s only the last two months we’ve had any issues.

“The first time they took $300 of change because we used to keep it in the shop but that has changed.

“We weren’t used to having to deal with this, now we have an alarm that goes off whenever something moves in front of the sensor at night.

“It means we’re not getting the best sleep at night any more.

“The forensic police have been able to find fingerprints but are yet to find a match.”

Police said they are following up a definite line of inquiry about the incidents and are working with the owners to help prevent further break-ins.

“Local police will increase night time patrols of the area and we will also be reaching out to the victims to discuss further security and crime prevention strategies,” a spokesperson from Queensland Police said.

Nearby residents in Serin St and Glentree Ave have also recently had their roads covered in graffiti.

An abandoned house in Serin St has been pinpointed by locals as the reason for the rise in crime in the area, with one describing it as a “hot spot” for unruly youth.

“The graffiti and all of the other issues come from the property being a party house and the local hangout for teens,” the Serin St resident said.

“Police have to come and clean it out on a regular basis.”

Queensland Police said there have not been any issues with squatters at the residence at Serin St for approximately three months, and that the premises has been boarded up and secured to prevent any squatters from entering it.
