A MAN has been praised by police as a “good Samaritan” after he tackled an alleged car thief after he rammed a stolen vehicle into two police cars this morning.
Officers were patrolling in Mermaid Waters about 8.30am when they spotted a stolen white Toyota Hilux utility parked on Lakeview Boulevard.
Two undercover police cars attempted to intercept the four-wheel drive and successfully deployed a tyre deflation device.
Polair vision shows an officer attempting to smash the drivers side window of the stolen vehicle.

The allegedly stolen vehicle was then driven forward, smashing into one of the police cars before reversing into the second car, narrowly missing a police officer.
The Polair vision then shows the allegedly stolen ute driving over a footpath and onto grass, before turning and driving onto a street in the opposite direction.
The car was allegedly driven onto roundabout into oncoming traffic.
The footage goes on to show the alleged car thief jumping out of the moving ute at the end of a dead-end street.
Polair followed the man who continued to run onto a nearby bridge.
A member of the public, who was walking his dog, tackled the offender and wrestled with him until police arrived and arrested him.
As the hero member of the public walks off, a police officer can be seen high-fiving the man.
The 40-year-old was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving a motor vehicle without a licence, offences involving registration certificates, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of utensils.
He is due to front the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
A 16-year-old girl was also in the car during the incident and has been taken into police custody.
Police are now trying to locate the good Samaritan, so he can be commended for his actions.
