TWO teenage girls were arrested in their homes in the early hours of this morning in relation to the death of Cian English.

The Brisbane teenager died while trying to flee on to the balcony of a Gold Coast apartment. Police allege he was assaulted and stabbed before he fell to his death in the early hours of May 23.

It’s understood the girls, aged 15 and 16 both from Coomera, go to high school together.

Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith they would allege both girls filmed the torture and death of Mr English, 19.

“Early today we arrested two females, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, both from Coomera, they’ve been arrested and will be charged later today with murder, armed robbery, deprivation of liberty, torture and stealing,” he said.

“As a parent myself, I don’t understand how this would occur, I know if my daughter, when she was 16, if she wasn’t at home, I’d be asking the question, where the hell is she?

“Why aren’t parents doing that today?

“You’ve got a 19-year-old male that has died tragically and you’ve got people who don’t seem to care. Investigations this week have led to additional video on the phones of some of the alleged offenders, which clearly shows there’s no remorse.

“Some of the alleged post offence conduct is reprehensible. (Police will allege) they’ve stolen from an unconscious person, his clothing, that was at the scene.”

The G old Coast Bulletin has been denied the ability to remain in the Southport Magistrates Court to watch the proceedings against the two girls, who will appear in court this afternoon.

Magistrate Kay Philipson denied the application stating that the presence of media would be prejudicial to the two girls.

Under Queensland law naming a juvenile offender is strictly prohibited.

Three men have been charged with the 19-year-old’s murder, accused of making him fear for his life to the point where he ran to the balcony and fell to his death.

Jason Ryan Knowles, 22, of Moranbah, Lachlan Paul Soper-Lagas, 18, of Woodridge, and Hayden Paul Kratzmann, 20, of Caboolture, have been charged with murder and armed robbery in company. They were yesterday further charged with stealing and torture.

Police will allege the three accused and the two teenage girls were staying at an apartment at the View Pacific Resort in Surfers Paradise when they met Mr English and his friend.

Mr English and two friends had gone to the accused mens’ apartment, directly above their own, to party. It will be alleged the party was seemingly amicable until Mr English and his friend were robbed of their clothing and mobile phones at knifepoint.

Police will allege Mr English was threatened and feared he would be killed after being stabbed.

Inside the room, it will be alleged the two teenage girls filmed and encouraged the torture and assault of Mr English and his friend.

“We will be alleging in this case that the girls videod the incident and the torture on both English and his friend and took no active step to disengage,” Det Supt Smith said.

“It was clear that they were actively encouraging it, and I think that the community would expect people that encourage this sort of behaviour are held to task and that’s what we’re doing today.

“Therefore you are held for account for the same punishment as the actual doers are liable for.”

He said the stealing charges relate to an incident following the death of Mr English.

“Police will allege one of the friends was subject to the torture and the robbery, a third friend was out on the veranda unconscious and he’s had his clothing stolen after the death of Mr English.

“It goes to the very core of their attitudes I believe.

“We will be alleging they’ve seen him go over the veranda, they’ve looked down and saw him deceased and then they’ve stolen clothing off this unconscious male on the veranda.

“It’s beyond belief that people behave like this.”

Det Supt Smith said the torture charge relates to a an allegedly prolonged physical and mental attack on Mr English and his friend.

“Over the course of half an hour we will allege there are continual assaults and torture is not just physical torture, it’s emotional torture,” he said.

Investigations into the alleged robbery of chemists in the lead up to Mr English’s death are ongoing.
