A man accused of leading police on a wild chase in a truck across the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales will remain behind bars.

Timothy Russell was excused from appearing in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday morning where he faces eight charges over the incident including wilful damage, drink driving, driving without a licence, and posses property connected to a drug offence.

The 27-year-old made no application for bail and the matter was adjourned for four weeks so Russell can apply for legal aid funding.

He was remanded in custody at Southport watch-house and he won’t be required to appear in court when the matters returns for mention on July 19.

WHAT HAPPENED

A man allegedly involved in a high-speed police truck chase has been charged with multiple offences including drink driving.

Around 1pm on Thursday police spotted a truck swerving on the M1 as it crossed the New South Wales border into Queensland.

It was understood police had been involved in a separate pursuit with two stolen cars when they spotted the truck driving dangerously.

Polair tracked the truck as it headed north on the M1 when it allegedly swerved and damaged multiple cars.

Officers successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on the M1 at Currumbin Waters around 1.30pm.

Police allege the truck then drove in the wrong direction along the Pacific Motorway with flat tyres before it came to a stop near Yatala.

The 27-year-old New South Wales man, who was driving the car, then fled the scene on foot before officers caught and arrested him.

Paramedics on scene assessed the man and took him to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition and he was released overnight.

The man was charged with eight offences including one count each of wilful damage, drink driving, driving without a licence, and possess property connected to drug offence, and four counts of fail to comply with duties of driver involved in crash.

The man was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today on June 21.

A man has been arrested after police were lead on a dangerous high-speed truck chase across the Gold Coast and into Northern NSW.

The arrest came after a man allegedly ditched the badly damage vehicle on the M1 near Yatala just after 2pm on Thursday and ran down the motorway.

Officers gave chase, the Bulletin can reveal.

Police sources have told the Bulletin, they had been involved in a separate pursuit with two stolen cars full of juvenile offenders, when they spotted the truck driving dangerously.

It was allegedly the Polair helicopter saw the truck weaving in and out of lanes before smashing into several cars on the M1.

Officers pursued the truck as it continued southbound, crossing the NSW state border where it allegedly struck several cars.

It performed a U-turn and headed back over the state border where officers deployed spikes to deflate the tyres.

The rampage continued with the truck running on bare rims.

At one point it’s understood the vehicle left the motorway near Movie World and ploughed through a set of traffic lights before returning the motorway and continuing North where the chase came to an end.

One officer was believed to have been injured during the incident.
