A man is in a critical condition after a one-punch attack on the Glitter Strip.
His alleged attacker has now been charged.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said two men, who knew each other, were walking along View Ave about 4am on Sunday when they began to argue.
The argument allegedly turned violent and one man threw a single punch at the other, sending to the ground.
The New South Wales hit his head on the concrete when he fell.
A 39-year-old man is in the Gold Coast University Hospital following the punch.
Police have charged a 26-year-old man with one count each of grievous bodily harm and possessing dangerous drugs.
He is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
