Stolen Audi from Sovereign Islands home sparks dangerous high speed pursuit through paradise

The teens reached more than 100km/h on a suburban street, nearly striking a pedestrian. WHAT HAPPENED

Five teens arrested over stolen Range Rover at Paradise Point.

Residents of one of the Gold Coast’s most luxurious estates have abandoned a high-speed chase of teen criminals in stolen cars, saying it got “scary” almost hitting someone.

The couple from Paradise Point had only just pulled out of the driveway at Sovereign Islands around 4pm on Tuesday when they were nearly side swiped by a black Audi with two teenagers on board.

The juveniles were in the process of stealing the vehicle from a neighbouring property.

“I just knew they were up to no good straight away. I know the owners and I saw the two kids had gloves and masks covering their faces” the resident said.

“We followed them, they were moving fast. There were two other cars with them and they had kids on board. They looked only about 14.”

The couple gave chase, tailing the teens through the luxury estate and onto Oxley Drive where the convoy of cars reportedly reached speeds of more than 100km/h along the suburban street.

“It was scary. We couldn’t keep up with them. They nearly hit a women while she was crossing the street,” the resident said.

For about 10 minutes the juveniles darted in and out of peak hour traffic, speeding through a school zone before running a red light and driving into oncoming traffic.

The vehicles were last seen heading into Coombabah.

It’s believed the two other cars involved were a Lexus and a Peugeot.

It’s the second similar incident in as many days. Earlier this week police arrested and charged five teenagers over an alleged rampage across the Gold Coast in a stolen Range Rover at the weekend.

They’re accused of stealing the car during a burglary at a Paradise Point home on September 24. The car was reported to police multiple times, allegedly driving dangerously at high speeds, and also used in attempted break ins across a number of suburbs.

The stolen Range Rover was reported driving dangerously on the M1 near Reedy Creek.

The same vehicle was also filmed at Jacobs Well by a resident, during a car theft in which a blue BMW was stolen from a home in broad daylight. Police found the damaged Range Rover dumped at Drewvale, near Logan on Sunday.

In that incident, two 13-year-old boys, two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old boy have been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
