A GOLD Coast hoon meet has turned ugly, with a young man in a critical condition from “significant” neck injuries and a photographer’s car attacked.

The 24-year-old male is in the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition with “significant neck injuries” while a male teenager was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition with a serious hand injury.

A freelance photographer Daniel Lutzke was working at the meet when he found his car covered in iced coffee and his tyres slashed.

“It was scary because I was there by myself, but I was just doing my job,” he said.

Mr Lutzke said he was alerted of the incident when he saw emergency services go past while he was at another incident.

He said he had purposely parked away from where everyone was gathering as a precaution.

“The man who did it ended up apologising and said “I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me”,” Mr Lutzke said.

A police spokeswoman said the incident at a location off Staplyton’s Henry Hester Drive was sparked by “a manner of driving” about 1.51am on Sunday.

“A number of vehicles were involved before a manner of driving and resulted in a 19-year-old man and 24-year-old man sustaining puncture wounds to their neck and hands,” she said.

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn confirmed the incident happened at a hoon meet and said police were investigating the injuries and the event.

Mr Lutzke added: “People need to remember when you are in a public place anyone can take a photo or video of you.”
