Police tape is surrounding a Gold Coast tobacconist and vape store as they investigate a suspicious fire that caused ‘significant damage’ — the second targeted in a week.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to a fire at Southport Tobacconist N Vape on Railway Street in Southport around 11.20pm on Wednesday night.
A QFES spokesperson said three trucks were sent to the scene to extinguish the fire.
The fire was out by 11.45pm, leaving the store “significantly damaged”.
Gold Coast Police said they were treating it as suspicious and were continuing to investigate.
Queensland Ambulance Services were called to the scene but no one was injured.
Southport resident Isaac, who lives opposite the store, said he wasn’t surprised police were treating it as a suspicious fire.
“I don’t know how it happened but I could smell something weird for like 20 minutes and then I saw the fire brigade coming out,” he said.
A Gold Coast police spokesperson said they were looking into potential links between the two fires.
“Police are looking into possible links in relation to the two incidents and this will form part of their ongoing investigations,” they said.
