A GOLD Coast woman ‘glassed’ and bashed a bar worker, leaving her victim with physical and psychological trauma, a court has been told.

Southport Magistrates Court was told Simone Lee Collins was with a friend at the Clock Hotel in Surfers Paradise just before 6pm on July 25, when a female employee asked them to leave due to their disruptive behaviour.

The pair instead remained in the venue’s outdoor area and were told to leave a second time about 10 minutes later, with Collins arguing with the security guard as her friend walked away. Video footage shows the other woman shoving Collins back, at which the 27-year-old smashed the glass she was holding across the woman’s head.

Collins then shoved the woman so hard that she fell backwards across several chairs and slammed into the ground. The CCTV footage shows Collins repeatedly kicking the woman on the ground, and even continuing to kick her when she is physically pulled away from the fight by a male bystander.

She spent about four hours in the watch-house following her arrest.

The court was told Collins’ victim suffered extensive injuries that left her struggling to eat or sleep, and had experienced numerous panic attacks since returning to work.

Collins appeared in court with similar convictions on her criminal history, including an assault on a police officer, for which she received a suspended jail sentence.

Defence lawyer Danielle Egan said her client had a troubled childhood, but had a strong work history and now cared for her teenage sister.

She said Collins had also reduced her alcohol intake since the offending.

Magistrate Janice Crawford said she did not think Collins fully grasped the impact of her “callous, reprehensible” attack on someone who was just doing their job.

“It impacts people not just in pain, but causes them to not be able to eat properly, to not be able to sleep properly, (and) have all kinds of concerns about how they appear to other people when negotiating their life,” she said.

“The impact of those injuries on her is very, very serious, and it’s ongoing.”

Collins pleaded guilty to one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and failing to leave a licensed premises.

She was sentenced to 15 months’ jail with immediate parole release and fined $500. She must also pay $3000 compensation to her victim.
