A tense 13-hour siege involving multiple police crews and a tactical response squad has just come to an end in Southport.
Emergency services have been at the property on High St since 1.30 this morning according to residents.
It’s understood a man barricaded himself inside one of the rooms at the accommodation facility.
It is believed he was armed with a hammer and a large knife.
Residents say as the siege threatened to enter a fourteenth hour, heavily armed tactical response squad crews with shields stormed the property rendering the man unarmed.
Three riot squad crews, paramedics and a very heavy police presence remains in the street on Thursday afternoon.
The Queensland Police Service media unit has declined to comment on the incident, a spokesman saying it was mental health related.
