Construction of a 19-storey vertical retirement village on Chevron Island will ramp up in coming weeks, with building giant Multiplex appointed to build it.
The Odyssey project will front Anembo and Mawarra streets and become home to 175 units once completed in 2025.
Development manager George Bryan said the number of support piles already installed in the ground as part of the early works adds up to more than 7.8km or around 24 Q1s.
“Milestones such as this represent a substantial stride in the right direction,” he said.
“Along with the Multiplex team, we will now transition into the next phase of construction and commence bulk excavation of the basement carpark.
“This will create the foundation for the parking facilities that will serve future residents, visitors and employees of Odyssey Chevron..”
The complex, first proposed nearly a decade ago, will feature a mixture of one to three bedroom units, as well as a penthouse.
Its features include a cinema, restaurant, wine cellars and swimming pool.
Odyssey founder and CEO Phil Usher said many of the people who had bought into it were long-time residents of Chevron Island.
“A lot of interest has originated from people within the Chevron area who are already enjoying the high-rise lifestyle or canal living and want to maintain their existing social connections,” he said.
“People really love the location of this newest community and since announcing this development, we receive one or two inquiries each day, which has kept us quite busy.
“The most sought-after options have been the penthouses, the two bedroom apartments as well as the north and northeast facing residences, both proving to be particularly popular among the senior cohort.”
