A man’s late-night swim sparked an emergency search and rescue effort at Surfers Paradise on Sunday.
The 25-year-old entered the water off View Street just after 11pm with a friend, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said.
She said the man’s friend called emergency services when he failed to return from the water after half an hour.
Water police began searching the surf on jet skis while officers on ATVs scoured the shoreline.
The search effort lasted for about 40 minutes before the man was found by officers walking on Cavill Ave, about half a kilometre south of where he had first entered the water.
He was uninjured.
It’s believed he had been swept up in the current.
Police are urging swimmers not to enter the water at unpatrolled beaches at night.
