A serial dangerous driver who fled the state after a hit and run in Broadbeach left a woman in hospital for weeks will be eligible for parole in August.

Following the hit and run on October 16, 2015, Scott Elite Nixon made 75 phone calls and then, with the help of his mother, lied to police about his car being stolen.

About eight months later – on May 6, 2016 – Nixon was spotted travelling up to 174km/h on his motorbike through Southport.

Nixon lost his Go Pro camera during the chase.

Footage from the camera showed Nixon riding the same bike from Coomera to the Broadbeach Waters police station at almost 200km/h. He ignored stoplights and other road signs.

Nixon pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court on Wednesday to more than 30 charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily ham and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Judge Paul Smith sentenced him to four-and-a-half years in prison with parole eligibility on August 28.

On the day of the hit and run, a 46-year-old woman had been walking through Broadbeach Waters. She looked both ways before entering a pedestrian crossing, only to be hit after taking about two steps.

She hit the bonnet, slid back down on the ground and was unable to move.

Nixon reversed, drove around her, parked around the corner and looked at what was happening.

He then drove past the scene yelling he “didn’t see her”.

Nixon dumped the car and began to make phone calls.

“Your leaving the scene was callous and did deprive the police the chance of testing you (for drugs),” Judge Smith said.

The woman was left with a fractured back, multiple fractures in her legs, needed five hours of surgery, two weeks in hospital and eight weeks in a rehabilitation hospital.

She left in a wheelchair.

In May of the next year police stopped Nixon for the excessive speeding in Southport.

Nixon then failed to appear in court in October 2017 and fled to Victoria.

He was not returned to Queensland until early last year after being caught for crimes in South Australia.

Defence barrister David Funch, instructed by Howden Saggers Lawyers, said: “It does appear the underlying character flaw this gentlemen does suffer is drug addiction.”

He said Nixon was remorseful, had the support of his family and hoped to kick his drug habit.
