A former Gold Coast councillor accused of murdering his stepfather has had his matter adjourned to next year with the prosecution seeking outstanding material.

Mr Bayldon-Lumsden’s matter was scheduled for an indictment presentation in the Supreme Court of Queensland on Wednesday.

The Crown prosecution told the court they were seeking outstanding material, namely Cellebrite information, and were seeking the matter be adjourned to January next year for further disclosure.

Cellebrite information refers to data extracted from mobile devices including texts, calls, app data and searches.

Justice Lincoln Crowley adjourned the matter to next appear on January 29, 2026.

At a committal hearing for the matter earlier this year, the court heard Mr Bayldon-Lumsden’s phone was used to search for ‘escaping domestic violence and coercive control’ the day before the alleged murder.

His phone also searched ‘coercive control and the law rights of women’, and visited the White Ribbon website’s hotline page.

According to information extracted from Mr Bayldon-Lumsden’s Google Pixel 7 phone, the device visited the internet forum Quora, including a page titled: ‘I’m 22 years old and my father still hits me. What should I do?’

The court heard police found Mr Bayldon-Lumsden’s number was saved on his stepfather’s phone as ‘c**k-gobbler’.

At the committal hearing, barrister Craig Eberhardt, instructed by Behlau Murakami Grant Legal, said Mr Bayldon-Lumsden told police his stepfather had pushed him whereupon he pushed back, causing his stepfather to fall over a cat bowl.

He told police he restrained his stepfather, who was angry and screaming, in a choke hold from behind.

It was said the pair ended up on a tiled floor, with Mr Lumsden on top of his stepson.

Court documents previously alleged Mr Bayldon-Lumsden tried to perform CPR and called police, but Mr Lumsden died at the scene.

Mr Bayldon-Lumsden was born and raised on the Gold Coast, receiving a 2009 Queensland Young Volunteer of the Year Award for his work with disabled youth when he was 16 years old.

He was working as a teacher at The Southport School and a respite carer when he successfully ran in the 2020 Gold Coast council election for Division 7.
