Axe wielding thugs have stormed a home on the southern Gold Coast, assaulting a man and forcing a woman and child to escape through a broken window.
The horrifying home invasion, which detectives are investigation as a targeted attack, unfolded about 1.30am on Monday at a property on Coolangatta Rd, Bilinga.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman (QPS) said: “Multiple offenders armed with an axe had forced entry into the home.
“A 33-year-old man who resides at the residence was allegedly assaulted during the incident however left the scene prior to police arrival.
“A 32-year-old woman and a 11-year-old boy who were also inside the residence at the time fled the unit to a neighbouring property.”
The woman and child suffered lacerations from broken glass as they smashed a window to make their escape. They both received medical treatment.
Detectives believe the offenders gained entry through an unlocked front door before making their way to the bedroom where they assaulted the male occupant. His condition is unknown.
Detectives are appealing for anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
