One of three teenagers arrested after a joy ride across the Gold Coast in an allegedly stolen car has been named for the first time.

Tobias Edward Kelly is charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and entering a dwelling to commit an indictable offence.

The 18-year-old is charged with another one count each of evading police, obstructing police, fraud, and unlicensed driving.

It is alleged the Coomera man and his two co-accused – a 16-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy – were in a stolen 2016 Hyundai i30 hatchback being tracked by police overnight Tuesday.

Polair was called in to follow the vehicle after reports it was driving erratically on Bermuda St about 8pm, tracking it north along the M1.

The trio allegedly turned around when they reached the northern edge of the city and continued their joy ride back down the major highway.

Police attempts to use spikes to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, with the now-damaged car continuing the pursuit to Mermaid Waters.

Kelly and his co-accused allegedly tried to flee on foot when their car stopped on grass near the Boowagon Rd roundabout. They were soon tracked down by the dog squad in nearby bushland.

The Coomera man did not appear in person when his matter was mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He is now under a return-to-prison warrant and did not make an application for bail.

Kelly will be remanded in custody until his matter is next mentioned on February 14.

His 16-year-old co-accused has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstructing police, and stealing.

The 14-year-old faces two charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of stealing.

Both are expected to appear in Southport Childrens Court in the coming weeks.
