A high-profile man is set to front a Queensland court after being charged with the rape of a young woman.

The man is alleged to have raped the woman in October of 2021.

Queensland law protects the identity of accused serious sex offenders, preventing media outlets from naming charged persons until they are committed to stand trial – a process that can take several years, The Courier-Mail reports.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed the man had been charged with two counts of rape.

“Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have charged a ... man with the alleged rape of a young woman in October, 2021,” police said in a statement.

“The man is scheduled to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on January 11, 2023, charged with two counts of rape.”
