A fresh crackdown on Gold Coast bikies has allegedly uncovered an arsenal of illegal drugs and weapons during systematic police raids over several days.
This week as part of operation Whiskey Luxe, officers from Taskforce Maxima and the Organised Crime Gangs Group executed 10 search warrants across Surfers Paradise, Tallebudgera, Coomera, Hope Island and Worongary targeting Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCG’s).
It’s alleged police uncovered an arsenal of illegal weapons including three firearms, two tasers and OC spray. Quantities of methylamphetamines, heroin, cocaine, MDMA and prescription drugs were seized by police alongside $15,000 in cash.
“People who decide to be involved in gangs and engage in criminal activity should expect to be the subject of ongoing police attention,” Detective Inspector Craig Bowman from the Organised Crime Gangs Group said.
“The drugs seized were destined for the streets, leading into the Schoolies celebrations, with no regard for the harm they would cause. These drugs can destroy lives and fund further crime.
“The safety of our community and protecting Queenslanders from the threats posed by these criminal syndicates, is our top priority.”
Police have charged 15 people including a 29-year-old Miami man and alleged member of the Comanchero member has been with affray and disturbing a place of religious worship, in connection to another ongoing investigation.
A 58-year-old Coomera man and alleged member of the Finks OMCG has been charged with wilful damage, relating to another investigation.
Police has also charged a 37-year-old Tallebudgera man and alleged Mongols associate, and a 35-year-old Tallebudgera woman and allege Comanchero associate, with drug related offences.
The crackdown comes just a fortnight after the Bulletin published a leaked internal police email sent from a senior officer to staff within the organised crime gangs group last year which appears to discourage staff from targeting Gold Coast bikies for consorting and breaching bail.
“The logs showed that consorting offences resulted in full briefs of evidence that chewed up a lot of our time,” the senior officer writes in the email.
“There were some successful challenges (by the bikies). A similar result for breaches of bail.”
The officer then goes on to raise concern that officers have spent “a lot” of time patrolling licensed venues on weekends for “no results”.
“No arrests, street checks or intel gained,” the officer said.
