Notorious conman Peter Foster has been hit with fresh charges as he continues to fight serious fraud allegations in court.
He appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday on five charges of fraud worth $100,000 or more, two of obtaining or dealing with another entity’s identification, and one of producing or using a false record.
The 60-year-old was first charged in December, 2021, with his alleged involvement in a multimillion-dollar Bitcoin scam on the Gold Coast between 2019 and 2020.
It was revealed this week that Foster was charged with an additional two counts of fraud in the weeks leading up to his latest court date.
It is understood the new charges relate to historical allegations of fraud overseas.
Defence lawyer Chris Hannay said on Tuesday that he would require a 12-week adjournment, as he had only recently been made aware of the fresh charges and was still awaiting material from the prosecution.
“We can’t do a committal without any of that material,” Mr Hannay said.
“The prosecution has told the court before that there’s no more material, but it seems to be the gift that keeps on giving.”
The brief appearance was not without Foster’s usual presentation to the media outside the courthouse.
He described the new charges as “the business version of a parking ticket”.
“It’s very disturbing. We’ll make an application with the (Department of Public Prosecutions) at some time for these charges to be thrown out based on the evidence, the lack of integrity,” Foster said.
“It’s just (police) going through the motions, you wouldn’t get a slap on the wrist for it.”
His matter will next be mentioned on April 18.
