A Paradise Point Parklands swimming enclosure will remain closed for the foreseeable future following a man’s horror drowning death on Sunday.
Gold Coaster Jake Brown, 29, died after failed to resurface from entering the water, with police saying it was believed he was sitting on the edge of netting and fell backwards.
His partner Karma Robinson described him as “not just a man, he was a very, very loved friend, partner, father, brother, son, grandson and uncle”.
While the spot remains closed, a Gold Coast City spokesman urged the public to obey all safety signage when swimming.
“Safety audits have been carried out at all our swimming enclosures and safety signage is in place,” they said.
“The City continues to work with police following the Paradise Point Parklands tragedy and an inspection of the net found it was damaged during the emergency response. The net will be replaced as soon as possible.
“The City will continue to take any action necessary to ensure safety at the swimming enclosure and will consider any recommendations from relevant authorities.”
Mr Brown disappearance into the water sparked a full emergency response involving water police, Polair and the dive squad from 4pm on Sunday. His body was found four hours later.
A man who witnessed it unfold claimed one of two males were sitting on the net’s float and one said ‘hold my beer’ before Mr Brown disappeared under the water.
Police continue to prepare a report for the coroner.
