A woman has spoken of her shock after her car was stolen from her Palm Beach home by a notorious gang just two days after she moved in.

Jade Kidd was asleep at the Fifth Avenue property when thieves snuck in and stole the keys to her Range Rover Sport, registration S659 CMB, about 1am on Thursday.

Ms Kidd relocated to the Gold Coast from South Australia three weeks ago, initially staying at Mermaid Waters before moving to Palm Beach this week.

“I’m not from Queensland, I had no idea that this goes on,” Ms Kidd told the Bulletin.

“I’m really shocked. The last few days I’ve hardly slept, I’ve been trying to locate my car.”

Jade Kidd is searching for her Range Rover Sport, registration S659 CMB, which was stolen from a house on Fifth Avenue in Palm Beach.

Ms Kidd said the thieves threw her property out the window at a nearby street as they made their getaway.

She has since been receiving toll notices for her car, the first of which was for a trip on the Logan motorway about an hour after it was stolen.

“They’ve been driving my car around all night, I’ve been getting toll notifications,” Ms Kidd said.

“They went through the first toll at about two o’clock, so I reckon they stole my car at one o’clock.

“I woke up at five am and noticed the car was gone but the toll was at two, driving in Logan.”

Ms Kidd said she had since seen images of her car being driven on social media pages of the notorious Southside gang.

She said she contacted the gang via their social media account.

“He was saying ‘we’ll be back in Palmy tonight while people are sleeping’,” she said.

Ms Kidd’s car was one of at least five vehicles believed to have been stolen in Palm Beach this week.

The thefts included three cars taken from Magnoli Circuit and a van belonging to a Varsity Lakes company which crashed at Nind St in Southport shortly after 8pm on Tuesday. A 14-year-old boy from Southport and a 13-year-old boy from Beenleigh were arrested at the scene of the crash and have since been charged by police with a number of offences.

Burleigh MP Michael Hart said police needed greater resources to deal with the growing problem of car theft in the Palm Beach area.

Mr Hart also said there needed to be greater punishment for youths involved in crime.

“We are seeing a spate of it (car theft) in Palm Beach at the moment,” he said.

“Cars are being stolen every second or third night.

“Unfortunately the youth justice system is not fit for purpose ... There are no consequences for these kids breaking into a place and stealing cars.”
