Two teen boys charged after ‘stolen’ van crash in Southport CBD on Tuesday night

Police have charged two teen boys who allegedly rolled a stolen van in a dramatic crash in Southport CBD.

GOLD Coast police have charged two teenage boys who allegedly rolled a stolen van in a dramatic crash in Southport CBD.

The van was observed by officers travelling on Scarborough Street shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.

Police did not attempt to intercept the van and it sped off around a corner into Nind Street, according to a police spokeswoman.

“The van reportedly struck a kerb and overturned,” she said.

“Two youths allegedly fled the crash on foot and were apprehended a short distance away by a dog squad officer.”

“The youths aged 13 and 14-years-old had non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and both were transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.”

Police have charged a 14-year-old boy with burglary, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with burglary, receiving tainted property and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The teens have been refused police bail and were due to face Southport Children’s Court.

Police investigations were ongoing on Wednesday morning.

Two arrested after dramatic Gold Coast crash

October 5: Two people have been arrested by police after the driver of a suspected stolen vehicle lost control and crashed in the heart of Southport.

The vehicle, a white van, came to rest on its side between parked cars on Nind St, near the junction with Scarborough St, after crashing at about 8.10pm on Tuesday.

Witnesses reported seeing the occupants of the van running from the scene, before being quickly apprehended by police.

A police spokesperson later confirmed that two people had been taken into custody.

Multiple police and ambulance vehicles attended the incident, with at least one person treated by paramedics.

Part of the street was closed for more than an hour as police investigated, leaving the owners of some parked cars unable to move their vehicles.

The scene was finally cleared later in the evening.
