A 33-year-old man is facing charges of drug driving and driving without due care and attention after his ute smashed into a small car carrying a woman and a teenage girl believed to be making her way home from a formal.

A Kia Picanto being driven by a 46-year-old woman was sent flying onto its roof after being hit by the man’s black Holden Colorado ute at the corner of Tillyroen Road and Upper Ormeau Road at Kingsholme at 10.20pm on Friday night.

A witness who was at the scene told the Bulletin it was believed the teenager in the Picanto, a 17-year-old girl, was on her way home from a school formal.

Ambulance crews treated the teenager and the 46-year-old driver of the Kia for non life threatening injuries. They were both taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
