An elderly woman is living in fear, assaulted in her own home on the Southern Gold Coast in a violent early morning robbery.

The 80-year-old victim, who has asked not to be identified over safety concerns, says she feared for her life during the ordeal.

“I thought he would kill me if I didn’t find my bag and give it to him. He grabbed me and pushed me into the wall and was shaking me,” the women said.

“He was yelling ‘Where is the money? Where is your money? I said ‘I will get it for you, I swear of it’.”

The victim was asleep in her Burleigh Heads home when she was woken to a commotion around 4am on Wednesday and went to investigate.

After unsuccessfully trying to break open a door on the second floor of the home, the man smashed his way inside through the garage door.

“When I got to the living room he was standing there. It was really frightening.”

“He was all in black. He was wearing gloves and a jumper I think. I couldn’t think.”

The women rushed to grab her purse from her bedroom after she was threatened and violently shaken by the intruder.

“He snatched it from me and went to the sliding door.”

“I have dead bolts that lock the doors into the frames. He was struggling with it and I was thinking if he can’t get out there is he going to come at me?”

Police arrived at the home shortly after the robbery but the culprit couldn’t be found when officer began patrolling the area.

The victim was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital on Wednesday where she had scans and a number of tests. She has large bruises on her arms and legs and has been left with neck and back pain.

Queensland Police Service confirmed the robbery took place after inquiries from the Bulletin. A manhunt is underway for a man described as 180cm tall with a proportionate build. Detectives have attended the address and collected forensics, canvassed the area for CCTV and spoken with residents.

Police are appealing for information and urge anyone with footage including dashcam and CCTV from the Burleigh Heads area to contact Crime Stopper.
