A driver allegedly running a red light collided with a taxi at Broadbeach on Tuesday, leaving one person in hospital.
The black Jaguar was travelling along the Gold Coast Highway at about 5.30pm when it failed to stop at the traffic lights near Australia Ave and struck the taxi, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said.
One of the vehicles was forced up on to a green electrical box, exposing live wires.
A 57-year-old male passenger in the taxi received minor injuries to his knee and ribs. He was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
The 39-year-old taxi driver was uninjured.
Police issued a 54-year-old Helensvale man with a $619 traffic infringement notice for failing to stop at a red traffic arrow.
Energex crews remained at the scene for more than an hour after the crash conducting repairs and making the scene safe.
