Bizarre road rules that carry big fines

Police allege an unlicensed driver slammed a Holden into the entry sign of a city shopping complex after failing to stop for officers and losing control while overtaking in a bus lane.

Photos have emerged showing the badly damaged Commodore essentially wrapped around the sign.

The woman, aged 20, was found to be carrying a “clear bag of a crystal substance in a handbag” after the crash at Carrara on Monday night, Gold Coast police have alleged.

The woman was travelling along Nielsens Rd just before the crash about 9.40pm.

Police believe she did not pull over for police officers as required before “overtaking vehicles in a bus lane prior to hitting a pole”.

“There appears to be no pursuit of the vehicle after it failed to stop for police.”

The woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for observation.
