A community sports club will be left thousands out of pocket after heartless thieves ransacked their club and cut up their cricket field.

Helensvale Pacific Pines Hawks cricket club members arrived at the Parkes Drive grounds on Friday morning to find massive tyre tracks through the field, a broken fence and the backdoor of their club damaged.
Hawks spokesman Shawn Riddell said: “If we hadn’t left our batting cage up we would have lost our wicket and that would have been our season.”

Inside the clubhouse thieves had grabbed thousands in equipment including a number of tablets used for scoring games and their till.

It is the theft of the cash register which will affect the club the most.

Without the till they will not be able to sell any drinks or food as they will have nowhere to store the cash.

Mr Riddell said a day without the register could mean between $2000 to $3000 in takings.

He said the tablets could be replaced to enable them to keep score at matches this weekend.

As for the field, it all depends on the weather.

Mr Riddell said if there was no more rain the grounds should be good to go.

He did have a message for the thieves and vandals.

“Stop doing it to clubs, he said.

“It’s going to catch up to you eventually. Please don’t do it again.

“There is so much more you can be doing with your time.”

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said forensic officers had visit the club on Wednesday.

She urged anyone who had any information on the vandalism should contact their nearest police station or PoliceLink on 131 444.

They should also quote QP2201885426.
