Boat theft in Surfers Paradise

A GOLD Coast man was caught on camera allegedly trying to steal a boat from the water in Surfers Paradise using a stolen ute and trailer.

Footage of a man struggling with a boat and trailer in Surfers Paradise emerged late Friday.

In the Tik Tok video the man is unable to get the boat, which had been loaded onto a trailer, over the kerb and onto the road at the Esplanade, Surfers Paradise.

He struggled with a slight incline in the road before lifting the motor up.

Two police officers on pushbikes soon arrive at the alleged theft in progress about 2.30pm Thrusday afternoon.

“I think it’s a theft in action,” a man is heard saying on the video.

The police officers then talk to two men at the boat.

They soon put one of the men in handcuffs.

It is alleged the man was driving a stolen Ford ute. The trailer being used was also allegedly stolen.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed a 37-year-old Mermaid Waters man was charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle or vessel and one count each of burglary, receiving tainted property, possessing restricted drugs, driving without a licence and possession of utensils or pipes used in a crime.

He is set to appear in Southport Magistrates Court in the coming weeks.
