A self-proclaimed hoon says the woman driver he hit while doing burnouts on the southern Gold Coast should not have been in his way.

Jay Marks pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrate Court on Thursday to dangerous operation of a vehicle on September 4 last year.

But less than half an hour later his tune was different.

“I am a hoon … what do you expect me to do?” he said outside the courthouse.

“She crashed into me … she shouldn’t have been in my way.”

In court, Marks, 19, was given 240 hours of community service, denied a licence for three years and fined $1200. No conviction was recorded.

He had pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving unregistered, driving without a licence, failing to stop at a crash and using a false number plate.

Prosecutor Gavin Reece said a woman was on her way to the gym on Township Drive, Burleigh Heads on September 4 when she saw a car sliding towards her on the wrong side of the road.

“All she could do was brace for impact,” he said.

Mr Reece said the woman began to film when Marks and his passenger fled.

He said witnesses had heard the car sliding around corners and doing burnouts.

The court was told Marks claimed someone from the car had tried to assault him following the crash.

Prosecution did not present any evidence that supported the assault.

Magistrate Ron Kilner said: “I am told you left the scene because you were concerned about the anger of the driver of the vehicle.

“Quite frankly, that is no explanation and no excuse why you shouldn’t stay and provide your particulars to the driver of the other vehicle.

“The whole episode smacks of someone who is so self-centred, so inconsiderate and with no regard to any person except themselves and it leaves the idea of responsible driving way, way, way out of the ballpark.

“Quite frankly, you are not a fit and proper person to hold a driver’s licence.”

Outside of court, Marks also claimed someone had tried to assault him after the crash.
