A woman has been arrested for allegedly aiming a gel blaster at another car on the M1 on the northern side of the Gold Coast on Tuesday morning.

Police will allege the woman was in a black Landcruiser when she aimed a silver gel blaster at a white vehicle about 10.10am.

Both were travelling south on the M1.

Gold Coast Police Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said it as not clear if the gel blaster was fired or not.

He said a witness had reported a shot but that was not confirmed.

The Landcruiser allegedly left the motorway and police tracked the car to Quinns Hill Rd where it was stopped.

Two men and the woman were spoken to by police and the men were released.

The 27-year-old woman was charged with dangerous conduct with a weapon.

Police will allege a silver gel blaster was found in the centre console.

Police are still trying to locate the occupants of the white vehicle.

Det Insp Ahearn said it was not clear if the occupants of both cars knew each other.

“Look, it’s possible,” he said.

“That’s the focus of our investigation we are trying to identify the people from the white vehicle.”

They are urging anyone with any dashcam footage or who saw the incident to come forward.

Det Insp Ahearn said gel blasters did have a similar appearance to a firearm.

“When these gel blasters are produced in public they can cause significant public alarm,” he said.

Earlier, police swarmed to the M1 at Yatala after reports of gunfire between the Yatala Drive-In and Eastern Service drive.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said in a statement: “Police are currently attending Stapylton, Jacobs Well Road following reports of shots fired from one vehicle to another on the M1 at Stapylton around 10.10am.

“Investigations tracked a vehicle to Quinns Hill Road where one woman was arrested.

“Investigations continue to locate the second vehicle.”

A number of police were spotted on the side of the M1.

No one was injured in the incident.
