A police officer has allegedly told a colleague “I will cut your throat and leave you bleeding on the floor” during a tense stand-off between fellow officers in a Gold Coast station.

The threatened officer, who lodged a criminal complaint at another station, has claimed they sought help from a doctor and specialists and had to be treated for a psychological injury.

Sources said the alleged victim felt “immediate fear and alarm” with suggestion the other officer was wearing their holstered firearm at the time.

The alleged incident occurred at the Coomera Police Centre today.

The alleged incident occurred in late 2022 at Coomera Police Centre.

The alleged victim and five other officers were engaged in conversation about the British Royal Family and the ethnicity of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. The issue was making headlines at the time, sources said.

“I have heard members of the press refer to Markle as Markie the darkie,” the alleged victim is believed to have said.

An officer reportedly took offence and allegedly responded by saying in a threatening tone: “Did you just call me Markie the darkie?”.

“If you call me that again, I will cut your throat and leave you bleeding on the floor.”

It’s then alleged another officer said in support: “And I will clean up what’s left”.

The staff allegedly involved are officers from the Crime and Intelligence Command, Organised Crime Gangs Group.

A witness is then said to have intervened to diffuse the situation telling the enraged officer: “He never called you that, he was not talking about you”.

Sources claim the victim believed the alleged threat to be credible, and left the office.

The victim subsequently reported the matter and made an official criminal complaint, which sparked an internal investigation.

Sources confirmed a psychological injury claim, as a result of the incident, has been approved by WorkCover.

Police sources claim the officer who is alleged to have made the threat has not been stood down from their job while the matter was investigated.

The Bulletin sent a series of questions to the Queensland Police Service to confirm whether the criminal investigation had been finalised and what the outcome was.

“The Queensland Police Service (QPS) can confirm a complaint was received by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC),” a spokesman said in a statement.

“(it was) referred to the QPS to deal with.

“The matter is now finalised.”

The QPS has refused to reveal the outcome of the investigation or whether any action has been taken against the staff involved.
