Police are investigating another smash and grab by tobacco thieves at a Gold Coast service station overnight.

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said an unknown number of offenders broke into the business on Old Coach Road, Upper Coomera about 2.35am on Friday.

“A large quantity of cigarettes were stolen,” the QPS spokesman said.

“At 3.10am police were again called after reports the front glass doors of a Spencer Drive service station at Carrara were smashed.

“An attempt was made to open the ATM inside the business but this was unsuccessful.”

At this stage police are still trying to determine whether both incidents are linked.

The incidents are the latest to target tobacconists this year.

On June 9 a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, stolen from Nerang, was used to ram raid five business in one night, including shops at Surfers Paradise and Biggera Waters.

CCTV captured during the spree shows the gang of masked offenders reversing the vehicle through the front doors of a business, where they then begin shoving quantities of cigarettes into the tray.

Then on June 26, a youth gang allegedly ram raided the Top Tobacconist on Discovery Drive in Helensvale.

Three other stores were ram raided that same night.

Officers have since charged a 17-year-old boy from Crestmead, near Logan, with enter premises and commit indictable offence by break.

Investigations are still continuing to locate others believed to have been involved.
