A MAN accused of the murder of a teenager at a Gold Coast high rise told police he was “losing my mind” days after the death of Cian English, a court was told.

Hayden Paul Kratzmann, Lachlan Paul Soper-Lagas and a woman who cannot be named as she was a juvenile at the time of the alleged murder faced a committal hearing in the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

It is alleged they were part of a group which had been partying with Cian English after they met at the Pacific View Apartments in Surfers Paradise on May 20 last year.

It is alleged the group made Mr English, 19, fear for his life to the point where he ran to the balcony and fell to his death.

Jason Ryan Knowles and another juvenile have already been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court.

They have all been charged with multiple offences including murder, torture and deprivation of liberty.

The court heard on Friday that during a police interview on May 23 – three days after Mr English’s death – Kratzmann told them he was a schizophrenic who had not taken his medication for about five days.

At the start of the interview police asked Kratzmann if he was feeling all right.

Kratzmann replied: “Nah, I feel like I am losing my f***ing mind. I have been off my medication for some days.”

At another point Kratzmann told police: “I’m getting really frustrated right now, I shouldn’t even be here.”

Kratzmann’s barrister Tim Ryan, instructed by Ide Lawyers, asked Gold Coast police officer Detective Senior Constable Shane Fry if he was concerned about Kratzmann’s mental capacity at the time of the interview.

“He appeared that he understood the questions, he appeared to understand his rights and he didn’t display any impairment,” Det Sen Const Fry replied.

Three witnesses who were at the party told the court they had been under the influence of a cocktail of drugs that night.

They told the court they had consumed alcohol, cannabis, ecstasy, cough syrup and Xanax.

None could recall much more about the night apart from going to Betty’s Burgers early on.

They did remember another group from upstairs joining them in their unit.

Two of the men said they were taken to hospital after the night.

They said they believed they may still have been under the influence when police spoke to them the next day.

The court was also played a police recording with one of the juveniles.

In the recording the juvenile can be heard repeatedly asking to call her mum but police kept saying they could call when they reached the police station.

The hearing was adjourned to February 15 next year.
