An ice addicted dad who took part in a break and enter at his neighbour’s unit has finally been sentenced nearly seven years on from the offence.

Brock James Webster, 30, pleaded guilty to robbery in company and unlawful use of a motor vehicle when he appeared in the Southport District Court via video link from custody on Friday.

The court heard Webster’s neighbour at a Surfers Paradise complex was taking rubbish to the communal bins and briefly spoke to Webster before he noticed another man outside on November 11, 2018.

The man, who was a co-offender to the robbery, grabbed the neighbour, threw him onto the bonnet of a car and asked him where the money was.

The court heard the neighbour said his wallet was in his unit and the co-offender put his arm around the man’s neck and walked him back to the home.

The neighbour’s girlfriend, who was inside the unit at the time of the robbery, was made to wait inside the bathroom with her phone taken off her after the co-offender made threats about if she was on the phone to the ‘grassies’.

Webster and the co-offender searched the unit, became increasingly frustrated and were swearing.

Another neighbour at the property came to the door to check on the man but he told her it was not a good time after Webster and the co-offender told him to get rid of her.

Webster and the co-offender stole property with a value of at least $3000 including a MacBook air, an iPhone, jewellery, clothing and bags. The pair also stole between $400 to $500 cash.

Webster was located at an Upper Coomera address on November 13, 2018 where he was treated by Queensland Ambulance Services for a drug overdose. He was arrested and charged for the robbery on November 27, 2018.

His co-offender was sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment for the robbery and other offences on January 17, 2022.

While he was on bail, Webster was also captured by CCTV inside and later driving a stolen car around 9am on February 18, 2018.

Webster’s lengthy QLD and NSW criminal history was read in court, with the seasoned crim currently serving a 1 year and 11 month prison sentence.

The court heard that Webster had spent a period in custody in NSW and had also failed to appear for one of his court dates, leading to delays.

His defence barrister Timothy Wise instructed by Tempest Legal said Webster, who is a father, was anxious to be able to play a positive role in his young child’s life and has positive family support on the Sunshine Coast.

The court heard Webster has a heroin and drug addiction.

Mr Wise said the robbery had an underlying drug issue and Webster was exploring different option to rid himself of his drug addiction, with hopes to return to work as a bricklayer.

Judge Jodie Wooldridge KC said the matters were serious offending but accepted Webster was not the primary offender in the robbery.

He was sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment, to be served concurrently with his current term of imprisonment.

His fixed court order parole release date was set for the 26 November, 2025.
