Arundel man, 25, charged after head-on bus, Jeep crash at Biggera Waters

The man allegedly behind the wheel of a Jeep that collided head-on with a bus on a major Gold Coast road – injuring several people – has now been charged. FULL DETAILS

COAST BUS CRASH

A man has been charged months after a bus and Jeep collided head-on along a major Gold Coast road, leaving several people with injuries.

Police allege a Jeep Cherokee was travelling west along Brisbane Rd, Biggera Waters at about 7pm on March 5 when it lost control and struck a bus travelling in the opposite direction.

It was reported at the time of the crash that about 11 people were on-board the Kinetic bus, with six assessed by paramedics. One of the bus passengers, a 46-year-old woman, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with pelvic and leg injuries.

A 25-year-old Arundel man who police allege was driving the Jeep and a 21-year-old passenger in the car were both also transported to hospital with injuries.

Police confirmed on Thursday morning that charges had been laid against the alleged Jeep driver, following extensive investigations.

He has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance whilst excessively speeding, and driving under the influence of liquor or a drug.

The man is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on June 5.

Footage captured from bystanders following the crash showed significant damage to the front left-hand side of the bus. The windscreen and exit doors has been crumpled by the force of the collision.

The front of the red coloured Jeep Cherokee was also badly damaged with debris strewn several metres along Brisbane Road.
