The case against a Gold Coast man accused of killing another man in a one-punch attack is expected to feature hundreds of witness statements and exhibits, a court has been told.

Alexander “Alex” Ivan Rasic faces one charge of unlawful strike causing death after an alleged fatal assault on Michael Hayes, 39, at Sanctuary Cove on May 27.

Mr Hayes suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain after he was allegedly punched by Mr Rasic outside the Destino Wine and Cocktail Bar, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head.

He died in hospital days later.

Mr Rasic was not required to appear in person when his case was mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Defence lawyer Jason Jacobson said the “very large” brief of evidence included about 100 of both witness statements and exhibits, with several still outstanding.

The court was told the material was expected to be finalised near the end of the month.

Mr Rasic’s case was adjourned to October 10.

He remains on bail and will be excused from appearing at his next mention.
