Broadbeach armed robbery: Man hospitalised after alleged assault

A man spent Friday night at the Southport Watchhouse after he allegedly bashed and robbed another man on the Gold Coast.
Police and paramedics were called to Broadbeach just after 9pm on February 14 after a 52-year-old man was allegedly robbed and assaulted.
A 43-year-old Paradise Point man was charged with robbery while armed, and one count of contravening a police banning notice in connection with the incident.
“Police will allege that just after 9pm the man approached the victim in the vicinity of Main Place and produced a weapon, demanded the victim’s property, and allegedly assaulted the victim at the same time of making these demands,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.
Following patrols in the area, the 43-year-old man was identified as the alleged offender, and was brought to Southport police station, the QPS spokesman said.
The 43-year-old man was refused watch house bail, and appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court on February 15.
The 52-year-old man was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with head and chest injuries after the alleged assault, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said.
